Kalanjiyam means ‘Collections’, of people, works, knowledge, wealth etc and represents the essence that brings together the community towards improvements and change

 Kalanjiyam is a registered non governmental organization based in Chennai. Kalanjiyam was founded with the aim of supporting people and communities in their own development to bring about meaningful and sustainable changes for a better tomorrow.   Kalanjiyam was founded with the vision of developing a community development model where the core guiding principle is the involvement and ownership of the community in the process of development.  A main thrust of Kalanjiyam is to bring about attitude changes and along with community involvement in all the efforts. 


The mission of Kalanjiyam Trust is to create an impact in a core set of areas:
·        Building skills and capacity of communities
·        Improving access and quality of education
·        Improving health and well being
·        Economic upliftment

Where we work
We work primarily in the state of Tamil Nadu for raising awareness on health, education and other development issues. Our community development initiative is currently focused in rural areas of Kancheepuram district: Maduranthakam Taluk, mainly in Lattur, Maduranthakam and Cheyyar blocks. 




Our Strategies and approach
In line with our principles, Kalanjiyam has formed a village committee (VC), consisting of members from local villages, who are the key persons identifying priorities, planning and implementing our programs.  At each stage, the VC works together with local leaders, link persons identified in each of our villages and other community members, to ensure involvement and ownership in the programs.  Our aim is to catalyze rural communities into action through information, skill building and at the same time strengthen existing programs.



Legal Status of Kalanjiyam:

Kalanjiyam is registered under the Indian Trust Act (1414/IV).

Donations are Tax Exempt under 80G section of Trust Act.
