| Dental Health Camp in Periya Vellikkadu School |
 Kalanjiyam organized a special dental camp for the children in our model school Periya Vellikkadu Middle school, Periya Vellikkadu village on 11TH & 12TH DEC 2007 Dr. Vidhya B.D.S Dental Surgeon and team of VIDHYA’S EVERSMILE Dental clinic in Chennai conducted the camp. Dental health of children is most often not addressed or neglected leading early onset of tooth decay or dental caries. Therefore on this day all the children in the school received an oral examination and fluoride application. The fluoride application is a special material that contains both calcium and fluoride and once applied lasts for 8 months to one year and helps to prevent and control early dental caries which is the primary cause of early dental problems among children. Oral exams are a way to diagnose problems such as caries, missing tooth, calculus, gum diseases retained tooth, malocclusion, precancerous lesions, oral ulcers and tongue problems among others. Poor oral hygiene will lead to lots of problems like severe pain, infection, abscess and even to heart disease and improper digestion etc, so oral hygiene is very important right from the childhood, treating any of the lesions at the childhood will really prevent them from other serious health problems. Totally 108 children attended the camp and were screened and got fluoride application. Dr. Vidya and team brought all the required materials and equipment for conducting the examination and fluoride application. During the examinations a case sheet was completed for each child to document any problems and follow up required for each child. This was handed to the child for future use. Dr. Vidhya also made a presentation on good oral hygiene and explained to the children about dental caries and how it can be prevented. The headmaster, teachers and parents also attended this session. NEXT STEPS Dr Vidhya and team will continue to work with us for following up with the children with dental problems. We will be providing children with serious dental problems with the required treatment.
