Our focus is on a core set of areas:
- Addressing early childhood development - Improving quality of education - Promoting and protecting health - Skill development for young people - Improving livelihood options Bringing communities together for change Various  special activities, such as meetings, awareness campaigns, workshops etc are conducted at the Kalanjiyam community training center for penetrating and mobilizing our village communities. These programs are conducted among young children, adolescents and youth, senior citizens, self help groups, disabled and with entire village communities. Local leaders and  officials from administration, law enforcement etc., are also engaged to bring about greater ownership and for facilitating changes. Such programs are critical for building rapport, creating links and strengthening the sustainability of our programs. Understanding situation and monitoring improvements We routinely conduct assessments in order to plan and monitor our programs. While beginning our work, we conducted a comprehensive baseline assessment to gain an understanding of the situation, needs and issues of concern to the communities. 
We have collected detailed information at the village level including: demographic details, livelihoods, infrastructure, local facilities and services available, access to education and health care, important issues and concerns in the village. Data was primarily collected through interviews with village leaders, key informants and other community members. During this process our team also conducted assessments of educational facilities and availability of quality health care in the area. Door to door census were also done in some selected villages, for key information about fa
 mily situation, indicators for livelihood, education and health status of the members. The assessments were conducted by Kalanjiyam field team members from local villages, who were selected and trained to conduct the surveys. Other than this, surveys, monitoring formats, case studies and visual documentation are regularly used to track the improvements and changes as a result of our program. |
