Kalanjiyam’s Education Program
We believe that lack of education is a form of disability for life, and therefore working with children and schools in our villages has been an immediate priority. We work with primary, middle and high schools ensuring enrollment, preventing drop outs form our villages, supporting curriculum development, providing materials and resources and overall to bring about changes in attitudes, improve the environment and better quality of education.
The foc Our field staff are placed in each of the schools and their work in the school includes interacting and teaching the children, as well as helping to plan with the Head Master, teachers and our village committee members on improving the environment and quality of education. We have adopted and working in local schools primary schools and middle school; currently we are working with seven schools, one high school, two middle schools and four primary schools. Ø Ø Ø Ø Ø Ø Ø And Ø These schools serve as the main schools for children from 40- 50 villages where most of Kalanjiyam’s work is currently focused. Kalanjiyam’s education program includes the following components v
Improving the local village school environment by providing tables, benches and mats for seating in class rooms
v Providing electrical wiring where required, fans and lighting for class rooms v Providing note books, uniforms, school bags for school children v Supporting school fees of children from poor families v Equipping schools with computers and providing computer education for all classes v Equipping all adopted schools with comprehensive sports and encouraging physical education for children v Providing music and drawing teachers to exposure children to arts education and widen their perspective v Providing supplemental nutrition for children: weekly fruits, nutritious mixture and vegetables to noon meal v Conduct health and dental camps for students annually v Improve local health sub centers for children to access for basic medical care / first aid v Provide first aid kits to all adopted schools v School ID cards with photo for all students in adopted schools, with their blood group v Ensuring sanitation in village school toilets by appointing persons to clean and maintain them v Provide school van facility for children from nine villages to travel to nearest school v Health cards to children in 4 schools (for about 300 children) for them to get medical care for illness from a health care practitioner in local town, free of cost v In addition Kalanjiyam also works with pre school children (totaling 110) from six adopted villages, providing nutritional and educational inputs daily as an after school activity to children. |
